A Muirandessi Randonneur

Here is another wonderful custom bike project. This time, I was able to work with an up and coming frame builder out of Eugene, Oregon. His name is Andrew Lu and his brand is called Muirandessi.

He is known primarily for his simple fixed gear bikes but he was up to building a true randonneur for me.

The bike was built with low trail geometry.

The frame has a 59cm seat tube, 58cm top tube, 46cm chainstays and a low bottom bracket. The head tube is 73 degrees.

General overview:

• Rear rack and fender eyelets

• Pump peg on chain stay

• 3 sets of water bosses

• Designed for 650b wheels and cantilever brakes-max. tire fit: 650 x 42mm tires w/fenders

Frame materials:

• Pacenti Paris-Brest Fork Crown

• Columbus life oversized road tubing

• Llewellyn Road front and rear dropouts

• Rene Singer Series lugs

• Nova Investment Cast Oversized Road BB with 4 Long Point Sockets.

• Reynolds 531 Fork blades and chain stays

He went to work!

He sent photos as he progressed, and we discussed options along the way.

That wrap-around chainstay is lovely!

Here is his simplified logo laser cut in stainless steel and silver-soldered to the headtube. Nice touch.

When the frame arrived, I was really impressed.

The next step was paint.

Keith Anderson is my go-to man for paint and I asked him if he could match the shade of blue on the Gilles Berthoud bags. I also asked for a very fine gold lug lining.

Here are some of the photos Keith sent as the painting progressed.

I wanted to build the bike up with a combination of both newer and vintage Campagnolo components.

Fantastic job, Andrew and Keith!

This bike is going to see a lot of mileage. Oh, BTW, it rides great.
